Activities & Snacks
Activities:
- Build an ant farm. Watch the ants working under ground!
- Decorate small paper umbrellas with paint, markers, glitter, etc.
- Eat snack under the table!
- Hide objects that begin with the letter ‘u’ under various objects throughout the classroom.
- Move real or small paper umbrellas up and down. Then, walk under and jump over the umbrellas!
- Plant carrots in a Plexiglas container. Talk about the roots (carrots) growing under ground.
- Play with cars and bridges. Make the cars go under the bridges!
- Put on hats! Then, take turns describing who is under the hat!
- Pick up
- Bring a picture of your uncle to school
- Make an “ugly duckling” cut-out from a plain brown paper bag. Practice the short ‘u’ vowel sound and then glue white feathers on the cut-out to make it into a beautiful swan!
Snacks:
- 7-up
- Make “dirt” (chocolate pudding with chocolate cookie crumbs). Talk about the plants and animals you can find under ground!
- Make “under/over” soup! Pick a variety of vegetables and talk about where they grow!
- Make an umbrella! Use bread or a pb & j sandwich. Cut the bread to resemble the top of an umbrella. Add licorice or pretzels for a handle.
- Make the letter ‘u’ with some licorice!
- Upside down cake!
- Make the letter ‘u’ out of gummy worms
