Activities & Snacks

Activities:

Build an ant farm. Watch the ants working under ground!
Decorate small paper umbrellas with paint, markers, glitter, etc.
Eat snack under the table!
Hide objects that begin with the letter ‘u’ under various objects throughout the classroom.
Move real or small paper umbrellas up and down. Then, walk under and jump over the umbrellas!
Plant carrots in a Plexiglas container. Talk about the roots (carrots) growing under ground.
Play with cars and bridges. Make the cars go under the bridges!
Put on hats! Then, take turns describing who is under the hat!
Pick up
Bring a picture of your uncle to school
Make an “ugly duckling” cut-out from a plain brown paper bag. Practice the short ‘u’ vowel sound and then glue white feathers on the cut-out to make it into a beautiful swan!

Snacks:

7-up
Make “dirt” (chocolate pudding with chocolate cookie crumbs). Talk about the plants and animals you can find under ground!
Make “under/over” soup! Pick a variety of vegetables and talk about where they grow!
Make an umbrella! Use bread or a pb & j sandwich. Cut the bread to resemble the top of an umbrella. Add licorice or pretzels for a handle.
Make the letter ‘u’ with some licorice!
